Our Story

The company was unofficially conceptualized by Megan Tripaldi and Beth Somerville in Portland, ME in 2014 with the creepiest production of King Lear (at least that we had seen). At that time, the company was called Stage Rage Productions.

As the years went on, the company produced more adaptations of established work and also started to create and support new and exciting work from local artists.

In August of 2019, the company felt it was time to rebrand and make things official. We established a board of directors, registered as a Maine non-profit, and produced our first show under the new name of the Polyphonic Theatre Ensemble.

We plan to continue to produce plays with a focus on new and local work, in a setting were artists can make a worthy pay check while they hone their craft. In 2021, we plan to move into our own space.

We can only get there with your help. There are many ways you can participate. You can become a sponsor or a donor. You can grab some tickets and come see our plays. Or you can audition and add your voice and your skills to our next production.
